Couples Counseling
I have completed Level One training in Gottman Method Couples Training, and use Gottman Method in my work.
I use Gottman because it is:
SimpleThe Gottman Method uses a simple framework where we start at the foundation of a relationship, and work our way up. This is called the “Sound Relationship House”.
AccessibleThere are many Gottman resources available. I ask that clients who see me for couples work pick up at least one copy (though you may want two copies, for each partner), of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. This will be useful to refer to during our work together
I have also completed training to treat affairs and trauma through the Gottman Institute.
What to expect-
We will meet, discuss your reasons for starting couples counseling, talk about how your relationship has been in the past, and what you want to get out of couples counseling.
Ideally, I will also provide you with a questionnaire to do through Gottman that helps establish the strengths and areas of improvement in your relationship
-
You meet with me individually (without your partner) for one session. This gives you an opportunity to have a session all to yourself, and be able to share your perspective without having to be as mindful of how your partner may hear it.
-
We come back together, discuss the individual sessions, and set our goals for our time together.
-
We meet regularly, working our way through the Gottman Method Sound Relationship House, as we address the concerns in your relationship.
-
As your relationship becomes more stable, we’ll meet less and less. Eventually, we’ll meet less and less often, until you feel confident that you have the tools to have a successful relationship.
